About the London Surf Club Big Wave Team
We are a group of unsponsored surfers who are looking to push our boundaries and embark on a four year voyage of self-discovery.
Between us we have in excess of 80 years surfing experience, and as a result have all surfed in very big waves the size of double decker buses, but want to go bigger.
So far in our surfing careers we have all had near death experiences, in big and small waves. Now we are learning effectively a new sport from the ground up, we will rely on each other like never before, and put our lives on the line in extreme circumstances.
We aim to travel to spots that may to date not have been surfed, or rarely surfed, they may be up to one mile offshore. They could be anywhere from Devon and Cornwall, to the East Coast, Scotland, Ireland or in Europe.
As you can see from our biographies, we are a diverse bunch and each bring a certain flair to the team.
Why four you may ask, well big surf in Europe often is a last minute call, and due to our commitments we may not all be able to make the chase every time - so the idea is to have some flexibility from that perspective.
How it will work on a practical level, well we will forecast the surf, make the call the night before. Write our wills(!), decide on a spot, pick up the jetski and roar to a launch location, check-in with the coastguard, and head out to sea, where we will tow into the largest waves we can safely surf.
We will document everything we do and due to our media contacts will be working closely with photographers and videographers, so stay tuned!
In the meantime the training starts now...
